Theatre Tuscaloosa to hold auditions for "On Golden Pond"

TUSCALOOSA, AL – Theatre Tuscaloosa is holding auditions for its upcoming production of On Golden Pond on December 13th and 14th at 7:00 p.m. in the Wilson Carr Rehearsal Hall of the Martin Campus of Shelton State Community College (9500 Old Greensboro Road, Tuscaloosa, AL 35405).

On Golden Pond, written by Ernest Thompson, is a classic that inspired the Academy Award-winning film featuring Henry Fonda and Katherine Hepburn. In this play, Norman is a curmudgeon with a strained relationship with his daughter Chelsea. Together for their 48th summer at Golden Pond, he and his wife nevertheless agree to care for Billy, the son of Chelsea’s fiancé, and a most unexpected relationship blooms. This touching piece explores marriage, the relationship between parents and children, and one’s relationship with death and mortality.

The roles of Norman and Chelsea have been cast, but all other roles are open for auditions. These include wife and mother, Ethel, who is an exuberant and loving woman in her sixties to seventies, Charlie Martin and Bill Ray, men in their thirties to forties, and Bill’s son Billy, who is in his mid-to late-teens. All roles are open to any race or ethnicity.

Directed by Theatre Tuscaloosa’s Artistic Director Emeritus, Paul Looney, On Golden Pond will be performed February 25 through March 6, 2022.
